SASKATOON — Saskatchewan’s civilian watchdog group is looking into a shooting by a Saskatoon police officer.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred late Friday night.
On Dec. 19, members of the tactical support unit were executing a warrant in the 1500 block of Rayner Avenue, says the Saskatoon Police Service. During the incident, an SPS member discharged their firearm. One suspect, a 25-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital, say police. He is believed to be in stable condition.
In accordance with The Police Act, 1990, the Saskatoon Police Service notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team and its civilian executive director has accepted the investigation.
As the investigation continues, the public can expect an increased police presence in the area.
