ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service had a few calls on and prior to Christmas Day.
Police responded to an assault accusation Dec. 25 that stemmed from a family dispute. All members of the family were separated, and one woman left the residence and stayed elsewhere.
Members were contacted by a woman regarding her conditions for an approved residence. She was told she needs to contact her probation officer and that if she is not in her approved residence, she could be charged.
Police responded to an alarm at a local business. There was no suspicious activity and the business was secure.
Members received a report Dec. 24 of an assault. The complainant received a video, and believed that the individual in the video had a black eye and had likely been assaulted. The EPS said officers viewed the video, and later located and spoke with the individual, who did not have a black eye and reported to police that they were not a victim of an assault.
Officers were called about a reported scam. The EPS reports the individual was under the belief that they were part of an investment opportunity involving Elon Musk. Money was transferred to the scammer and has been lost. The matter is still under investigation.
Police were called to a local business for a report of an unruly individual refusing to leave. Members attended, and spoke with the business owner and the subject of the report. The EPS says police mediated a resolution with the assistance of a good Samaritan spreading Christmas spirit in the store.
Officers received a request from St. Joseph’s Hospital to assist with a patient who was causing a disturbance. Police attended and the situation was resolved without further difficulty.
Police were notified of a theft from a residence. The matter is still under investigation.
Members received a call from an individual currently on a release condition with a residency clause. The individual wanted permission to stay at a different address. Police reminded the caller that police have no authority to change or permit them to do anything other than abide by the conditions as issued by the court. The caller was reminded the only individuals with authority to alter those conditions are the court or a probation officer.
Officers responded to a Dec. 23 report of a suspicious man. Police located the man, who was found to be intoxicated. He was warned and transported back to his residence.
Police provided assistance to a cab company that had run out of gas while returning to Estevan after transporting a passenger.
The EPS is investigating a report of a hit and run.
Police received a request for a well-being check on a woman. She was located and confirmed to be okay.
Members arrested and lodged an intoxicated male Dec. 22 who was causing problems in his condo complex. Charges are pending for obstruction and mischief.
Police conducted a curfew check on a man. He was home as per his conditions.
Officers responded to a report of a fight between two groups. One of the men was reported to be carrying a firearm. According to the EPS, police located the group and determined that no firearm was involved. Estevan EMS attended as one of the men was injured as a result of the fight. The EPS said that since nobody would provide a statement, police could not proceed further with the investigation.
Police received a report of a homeless woman living in the ATM area at one of the banks downtown. Police attended but she was gone upon their arrival.
