ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service arrested two people in the city’s industrial area Dec. 26.
According to the EPS, in an effort to deter thefts from area businesses, members were patrolling and located the two Estevan men on all-terrain vehicles. The men were arrested for possession of break-in tools. Due to the nature of the charge, along with being on release conditions from court and their criminal history, they were remanded into custody to appear in Estevan Provincial Court on Dec. 29.
Police received a request for assistance Dec. 26 for an assault and mischief to property complaint. Members attended to a Pleasantdale residence and attempted to mediate a resolution. Police garnered some assistance from the Ministry of Social Services’ duty work who also attended.
Officers received a request to do a wellness check on an individual who was reported to be driving on a highway. Police located the individual and determined the person was fine.
Police were called to a residence in east Estevan for a report of someone in a detached garage at a residence who was unwelcome. Members were able to mediate a resolution by getting one party to leave.
Officers received a driving complaint regarding a vehicle in a business parking lot doing “donuts”. Police attended and issued a summary offence ticket under the Traffic Safety Act.
Police received a request for a wellness check on an individual in the Hillside area. Members attended and spoke to the individual, who was just going to bed for the night and didn’t need any further police assistance.
Members received a report of loud music from the Centennial area. Officers attended and determined the complainant was likely hearing a cabaret. No further action was taken.
The EPS received a request from the RCMP on Dec. 27 to investigate a driving complaint involving a vehicle that was approaching the city. Members located the vehicle, which was reported to have been swerving all over the road, leading the complainant to believe the driver may have been impaired. A traffic stop confirmed that the driver was not impaired, but he was issued a summary offence ticket under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to wear glasses or contact lenses to correct his vision.
Police received a report of criminal harassment. As per the request of the complainant, the subject of the report was contacted by the EPS and cautioned regarding their behaviour, which appears to have resolved the issue.
Members arrested a 33-year-old Estevan man for refusing to provide a sample of his breath into an approved screening device upon demand. His licence was suspended and he will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charge.
Police received a report of the theft of an audio headset. The matter is still under investigation.
EPS attended to a report of a disturbance at a Hillcrest residence. One of the parties involved wanted to retrieve her property from a residence and had been refused. Members mediated and the individual was given the opportunity to retrieve a portion of her property with arrangements for the remaining items to be picked up at a later date.
The EPS received a report Dec. 28 of a lost wallet. A report was filed in hopes that someone will locate the item and drop it off at the police station to be returned.
A reported assault was investigated. Statements were obtained from those involved and the matter is being informally resolved without criminal charges.
While on patrol, members located a door to a local business insecure and ajar. The building was cleared and no sign of forced entry or persons present was evident, so the business was secured and the owner was advised.
