WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service responded to 44 calls for service during the week of Dec. 22–29.
Alcohol believed a factor
Police were called to a residence for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined that the incident involved a verbal argument only, with no assault having occurred. A woman was removed from the home and provided a ride home. Police say alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor.
Numerous mental health calls
Police responded to multiple mental health-related incidents during the week. On two occasions, individuals were apprehended under the Mental Health Services Act and transported to hospital for further care. While the holiday season is often a time of connection, it can also be a difficult period for some. In both instances, concerned friends or family members contacted police, allowing individuals to receive the help they needed.
Boxing Day disturbances
Police were called to numerous licensed establishments on Boxing Day in relation to aggressive patrons. In all cases, police were able to successfully de-escalate the situations and ensure patrons were able to get home safely. Police say they commend the establishments for contacting police early, before situations escalated further.
The Weyburn Police Service would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and reminds those celebrating to plan a safe ride home.
