REGINA — A Quebec man facing charges in both Regina and Saskatoon in connection with a grandparent scam remains in custody following a court appearance.
Ciprian Tedo, 50, was remanded and his case adjourned to Jan. 13, 2026, during a December appearance.
His co-accused, Alexandra Condurache, 40, also from Quebec, had several charges against her stayed on Dec. 12. She received a conditional sentence to be served in the community on one count of fraud.
The two were arrested by Regina Police Service on Dec. 2 following reports of fraud in Regina and White Butte. Police say victims were defrauded of more than $40,000 with approximately $20,000 later recovered.
Tedo and Condurache were jointly charged in Regina with multiple fraud offences. Tedo faces additional, separate charges in Saskatoon for fraud over and under $5,000 and breaching court conditions, which are being dealt with in Regina court.
The Saskatoon charges stem from five reports received by Saskatoon Police Service between Nov. 24 and 27, where victims lost a combined total exceeding $45,000. In each case, police say a caller impersonated a grandson who claimed to be in jail after a collision and needed emergency bail money. A second person would then collect cash, ranging from $5,000 to $26,000, from the victims’ homes.
