REGINA — A warrant has been issued for a Regina man who failed to appear in court on firearms-related charges stemming from an August incident in Regina's North Central neighbourhood. His co-accused remains in custody as he awaits trial.
Dylan Poorman, 27, failed to appear in Regina Provincial Court and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Justin McKay, 39, remains in custody and was back in court on Dec. 19. He is scheduled to return to court in March for a trial.
Their charges are a result of an incident on Aug. 30. According to Regina Police Service (RPS), the two face multiple firearms-related charges after a traffic stop that led to the discovery of a loaded firearm.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Aug. 30, RPS patrol officers were working with the Aerial Support Unit (ASU) investigating a series of break and enters in the 800 block of Athol Street. During the investigation, ASU officers observed a vehicle leaving the area where a male matching the description of the break and enter suspect was last seen.
Patrol units conducted a traffic stop. One man exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The RPS Canine Unit tracked the suspect and found him hiding behind a large fence. He ignored police commands and fled again. He was arrested a short distance later by patrol officers.
The second suspect remained at the scene and was arrested without further incident. The two men weren’t found to be responsible for the break and enters but a search of the vehicle resulted in several items being seized, including a loaded sawed-off rifle, a loaded magazine, various quantities of illicit drugs, and alcohol.
Poorman is charged with possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a vehicle, and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm.
McKay faces three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possession of ammunition contrary to prohibition order, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm when unauthorized, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, resisting arrest, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a vehicle.
Both men first appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Sept. 2. Poorman was released from custody but failed to appear for subsequent court dates in October and November.
