INDIAN HEAD — Two Ontario residents arrested during a routine traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway, which led to a major seizure of narcotics and contraband tobacco, were back in court and their matters were adjourned to January.
Manjinder Singh, 27, and Harmanjeet Singh, 23, both from Brampton, are expected to enter an election on Jan. 6 on how they want to be tried.
The arrests followed a traffic stop by Indian Head RCMP on July 7 after they pulled over a tractor-trailer unit during a traffic enforcement operation. During the investigation, officers searched the vehicle and found about 247 grams of opium and 490 boxes containing approximately 4.9 million unstamped cigarettes.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Moose Jaw Crime Reduction Team and Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP assisted with this investigation.
The men are jointly charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, sell, offer for sale, transport, deliver, distribute, or have in his possession for the purpose of sale a tobacco product, or a raw leaf tobacco that is unstamped, sell, offer for sale of have in his possession a tobacco product unstamped, unlawfully import tobacco into Saskatchewan, and possess, store, transport or sell tobacco that is not marked in a prescribed manner.
Neither are in custody.
