REGINA — Regina Crime Stoppers has reported a year-over-year increase in tips for 2025, resulting in more arrests and cases being cleared by the Regina Police Service (RPS).
Stats provided by the non-profit organization on Wednesday show a roughly 10 per cent uptick in tips from 832 in 2024 to 917 in 2025.
These tips led to 44 arrests in 2025, up from 26 in the previous year, and 81 cases cleared in 2025, up from 24 in 2024.
The most notable increase comes in property recovered, including cash and drugs. Last year saw $28,438 in value recouped by police, up from $7,500 in 2024.
Regina Crime Stoppers president Kevin Bassendowski couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason for these increases, but indicated the group has done well in community outreach and education.
“We believe that by educating the public, it has made them more comfortable with Crime Stoppers being anonymous, and they're more eager to provide tips.”
Speaking on education, Bassendowski mentioned a collaboration between the group and a dozen students at Scott Collegiate last year to help fundraising efforts and bring discussions to community centres.
From a police perspective, RPS Chief Lorilee Davies said it’s tricky to describe the increase.
“I'd like to think that people are more invested in community safety; they want to make Regina a safe place.”
Davies also couldn’t say if arrests made and cases cleared would continue to increase in 2026 without a full picture of the 2025 crime numbers.
To further increase the outreach of Regina Crime Stoppers, the group has worked on bringing back crime re-enactments.
Bassendowski called the decision getting “back to their roots.”
People can see the re-enactments on Regina Crime Stoppers' social media, Moonlight Movies Cinemas and CTV.
The City of Regina is also helping increase the group's presence by placing labels on waste bins.
Bassendowski described this as a great way to increase information about Regina Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information for Regina Crime Stoppers can come forward anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or download the free P3 app on Apple and Android devices.
Bassendowski reassured anyone worried about tipping information based on the organization's track record.
“Given the fact that Regina Crime Stoppers has been in the community for 41 years, and there's never been a case of somebody being outed or otherwise discovered by using Regina Crime Stoppers, all I can do is really rest on that great [history].”
Since its inception in 1984, Regina Crime Stoppers has helped with 2,048 charges being laid and aided in recovering over $12 million in stolen property.
