ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service responded to several incidents in recent days, including thefts, disturbances and reports later deemed unfounded.
EPS received a complaint Jan. 7 of a stolen quad. The theft occurred in the industrial area, and EPS said the incident remains under investigation.
Another report involved a break and enter in which two dogs were stolen by individuals known to the complainant. EPS said the investigation is ongoing.
Police also responded to a domestic dispute between two siblings. Members spoke with both parties and mediated the situation.
Members of the EPS Police and Crisis Team were involved in follow-up discussions with several individuals referred through police investigations.
A complaint of criminal harassment through social media is also under investigation after a person received multiple concerning posts.
A suspicious man was observed in the industrial area and later located by EPS. The individual was co-operative with police, including consenting to a search of his backpack. No criminal activity was identified, and he was advised of the complainant’s concerns before being sent on his way.
A noise complaint in a northeast hotel parking lot resulted in the occupants of a vehicle being warned under the noise bylaw for playing music too loudly for an extended period.
EPS received a complaint Jan. 6 regarding trespassing by individuals known to the complainant. That matter remains under investigation.
Members attended a panic alarm at a downtown business, which was later determined to be unfounded.
Police also received a report of a break and enter in progress at an apartment building in the city core. Officers attended and were unable to locate any evidence to substantiate the call. Other tenants were spoken to, but no additional witness observations were obtained. EPS said the report is believed to be unfounded.
EPS later received a report of a break and enter at a residence in north Estevan. Patrol officers attended, spoke with the complainant and determined he was confused and had misunderstood what he believed were signs of a break-in. EPS said it was determined no break and enter had occurred.
Members also attended a Jan. 5 report of an Estevan man causing a disturbance and stealing a cellphone from a family member. Following the investigation, the individual was arrested for theft under $5,000 and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a mental health assessment.
A 33-year-old Estevan man was arrested for causing a disturbance and public intoxication by drug after he was reported screaming at staff at a local financial institution. He was lodged in cells until sober.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in the Trojan area. Officers mediated the situation, and one party agreed to leave the residence for the remainder of the day.
A report of criminal harassment was also received during the night shift. Additional statements are pending, and the matter remains under investigation.
