PRINCE ALBERT —A 30-year-old Southend man was arrested after he fled from the RCMP and caused a two-vehicle collision on Jan. 7.
According to Prince Albert RCMP, at about 1 a.m., officers observed an SUV being driven erratically on 2nd Avenue East. Police activated their lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop, fleeing eastbound on 22nd Street East. Prince Albert RCMP didn’t pursue the vehicle; they disengaged their emergency equipment and followed in the SUV’s direction.
Shortly after, officers came upon a collision at the intersection of 6th Avenue East and 22nd Street East involving the same SUV and a passenger car. Five individuals exited the SUV and fled the scene on foot.
Emergency services, including EMS and fire crews, attended the scene. The passenger of the struck car was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of that vehicle reported no injuries.
With assistance from the Prince Albert Police Service, RCMP contained the area. Three females were arrested near the scene of the collision. A police dog was used to track two outstanding suspects, leading to the arrest of a man and a female. Three of the arrested individuals from the SUV were taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.
The man was charged with dangerous driving, flight from a police officer, and failing to stop after an accident.
The four other individuals who were initially arrested were later released from police custody without charge.
