A school bus carrying children rolled over south of Mafeking, Manitoba Tuesday morning, sending 15 people to hospital and prompting an RCMP investigation. Mounties say the crash happened around 8:35 on Highway 10, about 13 kilometres south of Mafeking.
Police believe the bus was travelling south and tried to pass another bus when the driver lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled, and came to rest upright. Road conditions at the time were believed to be slippery.
Emergency crews responded and transported 15 people, including the driver, to hospital in Swan River for assessment and treatment. RCMP say four patients, including three youth and one adult, were later airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg for further care. Police have not released details on the extent of injuries.
A Manitoba RCMP forensic reconstructionist has been deployed to the scene to examine the collision and help determine exactly what happened. RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and more information will be shared when it becomes available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Swan River RCMP as the investigation continues today.
