NORTH BATTLEFORD — People will be able to ask questions and learn more about their local RCMP officers at Battlefords RCMP with a new event called Coffee with a Cop.
The event will take place at McDonald's Restaurant, 11102 Railway Ave., in North Battleford from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jan. 15.
Battlefords RCMP Cpl. Steve Bell and Insp. Ryan How are among those participating in the event.
"We've invited some of our partner agencies," Bell said. "We might have members from Citizens on Patrol and our victim services co-ordinator. There's a possibility we might have members from some of our support sections, and we've also extended an invite to the Sask. Marshals who have started up in town. There should be a whole crew of us."
Bell said hosting a Coffee with a Cop event was something that had been on the minds of Battlefords RCMP for some time.
"It's another event to show us in a different light," he said. "Having the community feel they can approach us, rather than having to wait to deal with us when we are on a call or something. It's another way to get us out there and interacting with the public, and answering any questions they have. It's nothing formal. It's just come and have a chat about whatever you want."
McDonald's restaurant has set aside space for the Coffee with a Cop event.
Bell said he expects some high school students may also attend to ask questions about recruiting.
"We'll probably be talking about current events," he said. "We're not really sure what to expect. There'll be some good conversation."
