SASKATOON — A 20-year-old man is facing several charges after Saskatoon police responded to a report of an unconscious driver in a traffic lane early Saturday morning in the city's east side.
Officers were called around 5 a.m. on Jan. 10 to the intersection of Eighth Street East and Broadway Avenue, where a vehicle was found stationary with an unresponsive man behind the wheel. Police say the vehicle began to roll forward as officers knocked on the window in an attempt to wake him, eventually stopping against a nearby snowbank.
According to police, the man eventually woke up, acknowledged officers, and then accelerated away into oncoming lanes of traffic. A brief pursuit followed before the vehicle came to a stop at Wilson Crescent and Clarence Avenue South, where the driver was arrested without further incident.
The man was charged with impaired driving, having a blood alcohol level over .08, dangerous driving, and evading police.Unconscious driver reported at intersection on 8th street leads to impaired charges
