PRINCE ALBERT — Police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old man after a series of firearms-related calls kept officers busy during a two-hour span Wednesday night.
Police first responded around 9:50 p.m. on Jan. 14 to the 1700 block of 16th Avenue West for a report that a vehicle had been shot at. Officers located two occupants who weren’t physically injured. Investigators later determined the shooting occurred in the 1000 block of 15th Street West. The suspect had fled before officers arrived and was described as wearing all black and carrying a backpack.
Minutes later, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Central Avenue after receiving a report of a man with a similar description involved in a verbal altercation with the occupants of an SUV. Police were told the man pointed what appeared to be a firearm at the vehicle before it drove away.
At about 10:30 p.m. police were called to a home in the 600 block of 18th Street West for a report of a man dressed in black entering the home and brandishing a firearm before leaving.
An additional call came in about an hour later, reporting a man walking in the 900 block of 17th Street West carrying a firearm. Officers searched the area after each call but were unable to locate the suspect.
Given the number of reports and the consistent description, police continued to search the area. A man matching the description was located shortly after in the 100 block of 17th Street West and arrested without further incident. Officers seized a sawed-off firearm during a search.
The man is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possessing a firearm while prohibited under a release order. Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
