LANIGAN — Four coyotes were deliberately chased down, struck by snowmobiles and left to die east of Lanigan earlier this month in what conservation officers are describing as a cruel and illegal act.
According to the Saskatchewan Association of Conservation Officers, Humboldt conservation officers were called to the area on Jan. 11 after reports of injured wildlife approximately 11 kilometres east of Lanigan.
Officers found four coyotes that had been intentionally pursued and run over by snowmobiles. Two of the animals were still alive but suffering from severe injuries and had to be humanely euthanized at the scene to prevent further suffering.
The association said evidence collected indicates all four coyotes were struck by the same group of snowmobilers, suggesting the animals were repeatedly targeted rather than involved in an accidental collision.

A cash reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of conviction of the individuals involved. Anyone with information about this violation should contact the provincial toll-free Turn-In-Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561. Calls are not traced or recorded in any way and callers may choose to remain anonymous.
