SASKATCHEWAN — As winter settles in across the Prairies, residents are being encouraged to bundle up, stay close to home, and capture the season’s beauty on local trails as part of a province-wide winter photography contest.
The Saskatchewan Trails Association (STA) has launched its annual Winter Photo Contest, inviting Saskatchewan residents to submit images taken on trails anywhere in the province throughout January. The contest runs from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31 and is open to photographers of all skill levels.
With ongoing political and logistical disruptions affecting travel to the United States, the contest places a spotlight on staying local while still embracing outdoor recreation.
“This contest is about celebrating the unique charm of Saskatchewan’s trails in winter and inspiring others to get outside and explore,” the association said in a release.
Entries must be high-resolution and include the location where the photo was taken. Multiple submissions are permitted, although each image counts as a single entry. All Saskatchewan residents are eligible to participate, though STA board and staff members are not eligible to win.
A range of outdoor-themed prizes is available, including a top prize package featuring a YETI Hopper Flip portable cooler, a Stanley AeroLight Transit Bottle, polarized sports sunglasses, and a tactical flashlight. Additional prize packages will be awarded to two honourable mentions.
Submitted photos may also be featured on STA’s website, social media platforms, or printed materials, with credit given to the photographer. By entering, participants confirm they own the rights to their images and consent to their use under contest guidelines.
Founded in 2004, the STA works with communities across the province to promote trail development, encourage active lifestyles, and preserve natural landscapes. Its work includes supporting both urban and rural trail networks designed to serve a wide range of users year-round.
Participants are invited to submit photos taken while walking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, or otherwise enjoying Saskatchewan’s winter trail system. Images can be shared publicly on social media using the hashtag #winteronthetrailsphotocontest2026 and tagging @SaskTrails, or submitted by email to Info@SaskTrails.ca.
Contest winners will be announced in early February, following the Jan. 31 submission deadline. Full contest rules, more details, and past winning photographs are available at SaskTrails.ca.
