CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 28 calls from Jan. 8 to Jan. 15, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- two Coroners Act calls,
- one disturbing the peace,
- two abandoned vehicles,
- one failure to comply with probation order,
- four failures to attend court,
- two frauds,
- one harassing communications,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- two mischiefs,
- one offender management,
- two Peace bond calls,
- two suspicious persons,
- four traffic offences and
- one traffic collision.
Roommate argument turns nasty
On Jan. 15, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report of an argument between roommates at a residence in Canora. The caller reported he kicked his roommate out of the home and the roommate returned with a big stick in his hand and broke the caller’s car window. Police attended the residence. Investigation is ongoing.
Breaking probation bigtime
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance on Jan. 11 at a residence in Canora. The caller reported a woman was trashing his home, running around half naked out of control and was now laying in the snow outside. Police attended the residence and located the woman nearby inside an abandoned home. The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance, and was criminally charged with failing to comply with her probation order for consuming alcohol along with failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
Consequences for police assaults
A 19-year-old man was in Canora Provincial Court on Jan. 8 and pled guilty to uttering threats, causing a disturbance, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer. The man had been arrested on Sept. 15, 2025, after police were called to disturbance on Norway Road in Canora which led to two police officers being assaulted by the man. The man received a 10-month conditional sentence order with conditions to abstain from alcohol and drugs and to abide by a daily curfew.
Sentence for multiple offences
On Jan. 8, a 35-year-old man was in Canora Provincial Court and pled guilty to obstructing a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and failing to comply with a sex offender registry order. The man had been arrested in the RM of Buchanan on July 5, 2025, after police went to a rural property with Yorkton Child and Family Services to check on the wellbeing of a baby. The man received a 300-day jail sentence and was credited with 284 days already served in custody for a total of 16 days to be served before being released.
