REGINA — Country Corner Donuts is working on reopening after a fire damaged the inside of the business last week.
Owner Vuong Pham received an alert from his alarm at 4 a.m. on Jan. 12. Upon arrival, Pham doused the fire with multiple buckets of water before Regina Fire & Protective Services (RFPS) arrived.
The fire department said the blaze was caused by a failure of a commercial appliance.
Since closing, Pham said it’s been hard on him.
“[This is] my life. I have been working since 1989. Every day, and now we stop.”
Pham has been working on clearing out the store so his insurance can understand the cost of the damages.
“The ceiling has to be gone in the front and back, and the wall has to be taken out because of the smoke.”
Pham said there will be multiple steps before the store can start remodelling.
As for the community, Pham said the words and support have meant a lot.
Pham said he’s always appreciated the family he’s built at Country Corner Donuts and can’t wait to welcome them back.
He is targeting the store to reopen within two months.
