REGINA — Weyburn curler Brennen Jones is returning to one of Canadian curling’s biggest stages for a third time, securing a spot at the 2026 Brier after a standout season with Team Knapp.
Jones, who throws Third for Skip Kelly Knapp out of the Regina Highland Curling Club, helped guide the team though one of its strongest seasons to date. Other team mates are Dustin Kidby at Second and Mat Ring at Lead.
Throughout this season they played in seven events, winning five of the six Saskatchewan Curling Tour spiels and qualifying for playoffs in a Tier 2 slam in December in Martinsville, where they played teams from China, Japan, Norway, Ontario and Manitoba. Most of these teams had Olympic experience. They lost a tight game in the quarter final against Magnus Ramsfjell of Norway who went on to win the Tier 2 spiel.
The team’s consistent results earned them the top seed heading into the Men’s Provincial Tankard, held Jan. 5 – 11 in Melville. Nine teams competed for the right to represent Saskatchewan at the Brier.
During the tankard, Team Knapp’s round robin record was 7 wins and 1 loss that put them into the 1 vs 2 page playoff against Team Kleiter from Saskatoon. Winning that game put Knapp directly into the final which was again against Team Kleiter who had to beat the winner of 3 vs 4. Knapp won the final 9-4 and the right to represent Saskatchewan.
For Jones, the achievement carries deep personal roots. He and many members of his family – parents, grandparents, great grandparents and uncles – grew up curling in Weyburn, where the sport has long been a part of the community.
This year’s Brier is in St John’s, Newfoundland, from Feb. 27 to March 8, and will be televised on TSN.
