REGINA — With grocery bills stretching household budgets across the city, REACH Regina is meeting food insecurity head on by bringing affordable, nutritious food directly into neighbourhoods where it is needed most.
Food insecurity remains a growing concern in Regina. Rising food costs, combined with housing and transportation pressures, have left many residents making difficult choices. REACH Regina exists to reduce those barriers with practical, community-driven solutions.
One of its programs is the REACH Mobile Market.
Instead of expecting people to travel across the city, REACH brings fresh produce and essential groceries to them. Mobile markets are set up at public community locations and operate inside four seniors’ buildings in Regina, ensuring older adults can access affordable food without relying on transportation or mobility supports.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are sold at prices well below retail, allowing seniors and families to shop with dignity and choice. For many residents, the Mobile Market is not just convenient, it is essential.
REACH also operates the Good Food Box program, which offers pre-packed boxes of fresh produce at reduced prices, along with frozen meals designed for nutrition, affordability and ease of preparation. Delivery options further remove access barriers for people with limited mobility or tight schedules.
These programs work together to address immediate needs while supporting long-term food security.
REACH also invests in education and prevention through child nutrition programs and food skills initiatives, helping families build healthy habits and stretch their grocery dollars further. The focus is not just feeding people today, but strengthening households for the future.
Demand for these services continues to grow, according to program organizers.
Community donations allow REACH to keep prices low and expand programs. Volunteers play a critical role in packing food, running Mobile Markets and delivering meals across the city. Every contribution helps ensure affordability does not come at the cost of dignity.
