REGINA — One of Regina’s most recognizable visual artists is opening the doors to his creative journey.
Roberto López López will launch Retrospective-Renew on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at The Artesian on 13th Avenue, unveiling a new exhibition and art sale that brings together key works from his past alongside a new body of paintings that signal where his practice is headed next.
The free, public opening marks a significant moment for López López, a self taught artist whose large scale murals and acrylic paintings have become woven into the visual identity of Regina since he settled in the city in 2000. Born in the mountains of western Mexico, López López has built a distinctive style rooted in movement, balance and organic form, shaped by close observation of nature and lived experience.
The exhibition’s title says it all. Retrospective-Renew looks back at defining moments in López López’s artistic evolution while introducing predominantly new work that reflects his current direction. The show features 37 paintings, with lines and shapes that evolve intuitively, responding to one another rather than following a fixed plan. The result is work that feels active, layered and alive, inviting viewers to slow down, move through the space, and experience each piece on its own terms.

The launch also coincides with a recent SK Arts Micro-Grant awarded to López López, funding the professional framing of selected works and strengthening the presentation of the exhibition. A representative from SK Arts will be in attendance, underscoring the significance of the moment for the artist and the local arts community.
More than an opening night, the event is designed as an immersive, walk through experience. Guests are encouraged to engage directly with the work and with the artist himself. All pieces in the exhibition will be available for purchase.
Following the launch, Retrospective-Renew will remain on display at The Artesian for at least one month and can be viewed during scheduled public events at the venue. Private viewings can also be arranged.
For López López, the exhibition is both a reflection and a renewal. For Regina, it is a rare opportunity to experience the full scope of an artist whose work continues to shape the city’s creative landscape.
