SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man charged in connection to a collision that killed one woman and seriously injured three others has pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench.
Wylie Gunnar Vermette’s jury trial was set to begin Jan. 19. Instead, he entered guilty pleas on Jan. 21. Associate Regional Crown Prosecutor Tyla Olenchuk confirmed in an email that Vermette pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving causing death, and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
According to Saskatoon police, Vermette, then 23, was driving at a high rate of speed on June 11, 2024, when his truck collided with an SUV in the Hudson Bay Industrial neighbourhood, near Quebec Avenue and 39th Street East.
Four people in the SUV were taken to hospital in critical condition. A 22-year-old woman, who was a passenger, died in hospital from her injuries.
