REGINA — A nationwide campaign helping U.S. healthcare workers looking to move to Canada has made its way to Regina.
Tod Maffin, a former radio personality, started the Canadian Healthcare Infusion project after noticing several Americans at an event wanting to move to B.C permanently.
The project gives Americans an understanding of how to move to Canada, what life is like and the differences in healthcare.
For the Regina chapter, Andie Borque decided to start it from her personal experience of moving from the U.S to Canada back in 2008.
“It’s a little daunting at first to see all of the information and try to sort through all of that.”
“[So] I knew that that was something I needed to become involved with because I knew that folks needed that help,” Borque added.
Tension in the U.S., including tariffs and recent incidents in Minneapolis involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has created a difficult time for people in the country, and those who used to live there noted Borque.
“I personally moved directly from the Minneapolis area. And watching the scenes out of Minneapolis right now has been really hard.”
“So I know that a lot of our folks who have joined our Discord site and things are feeling that real fear of what’s going to happen next and what’s happening now.”
Over the weekend alone, Borque noted site activity nearly doubled, receiving a couple of emails from U.S. residents.
“That showed me how much the news down there is affecting people.”
The Regina chapter for the campaign is only a few weeks old, with Borque creating an email for the site last week.
So far, the questions people have been asking most are how to move to Canada.
“So a lot of our time in there is spent just handling them, handing them websites and showing them places to go to get that information,” said Borque.
As for U.S. residents in the process of moving to Canada, Borque said three to four people are hoping to get their applications done within the next year.
Overall, the nationwide campaign has over 20 chapters with more on the way.
Information on the chapters can be found here.
