NORTH BATTLEFORD — Robert Norgaard, 40, of Cut Knife, failed to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 3 and the judge ordered a bench warrant to hold. If Norgaard doesn’t appear in court for his next scheduled appearance on March 3, then a bench warrant for his arrest will be issued.
Norgaard was granted bail in December with his bail hearing proceeding as a reverse onus, meaning Norgaard was required to demonstrate why he should be released, rather than the Crown having to justify his detention.
He faces 32 criminal charges following an investigation by the North Battleford RCMP.
The charges stem from a Nov. 8, 2025, incident in which police stopped him while he was in a black Cadillac Escalade SUV on Poundmaker First Nation.
According to RCMP, guns were seized from a hidden compartment when officers searched his vehicle. A total of six guns were seized from the vehicle, including four that were loaded with ammunition in the chamber.
At the time, Norgaard was wearing soft body armour and had a large hunting knife on him.
According to court documents, Norgaard faces multiple firearm offences, including possession of several loaded weapons without a license (a sawed-off shotgun, a shotgun, a .22 rifle, and a prohibited double-barrel shotgun). He is also charged with possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose and with having two firearms that had their serial numbers removed.
Additional charges include having prohibited weapons (knuckle dusters, a collapsible baton, and a knife) for a dangerous purpose. He is also charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of unstamped tobacco.
The Crown is proceeding by indictment, the more serious form of the charges.
