SASKATOON — Five men were arrested after patrol officers uncovered multiple prohibited weapons during a firearms investigation on the city’s west side.
Saskatoon police say officers were patrolling an alley in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood in the 100 block of Avenue T South at around 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 4 when they saw a group of men discard an object into a snowbank. When officers approached, they recovered the item and determined it was a sawed-off firearm.
After investigating further, police found two additional men in the group carrying sawed-of firearms, while another was in possession of bear spray.
A fifth man wasn’t armed but was found suffering from stab wounds believed to have been sustained in an unrelated incident earlier in the night. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Four men, age 32, 18, and two 20-year-olds, have been charged with a variety of weapons-related offences. The 18-year-old man was also found to be breaching court-imposed conditions. The 19-year-old man who had been stabbed in an unrelated incident was not charged.
Police say they are continuing to investigate.
