SASKATOON — Saskatoon police arrested two men early Friday after officers interrupted what they say was a catalytic converter theft and a truck rammed a police vehicle during the attempted escape.
Police were called to the 200 block of Marquis Drive at about 3:30 a.m. for a report of someone cutting a catalytic converter from a vehicle. When officers arrived, they saw a man underneath a vehicle. As police approached in their patrol car, the man retreated to a nearby truck, which then rammed the police vehicle in an attempt to flee, say police.
The truck became stuck in a snowbank, and officers removed two occupants from the vehicle. A police dog was used during the arrests, and the driver was treated in hospital for injuries consistent with a dog bite.
A 40-year-old man has been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, resisting arrest, mischief under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, attempted theft under $5,000, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions. A 45-year-old man has also been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and resisting arrest.
