REGINA — It’s a new beginning for Regina’s Austrian Club.
The club has purchased a new home at 653C Solomon Crescent in Regina.
Rhonda Mailander said the search for their new building has been in the works for over seven years.
“Over the last few years, we've talked a lot about finding a space, and I think [we] really kicked that search into high gear over the past year. It's taken us certainly longer than we anticipated to find something that was a good fit for our group.”
Regina's Austrian Club was housed along Maxwell Crescent until late 2018, but the property was too big for the number of members at the time.
Mailander said the new property is appropriate for the roughly 80 families that are a part of the club.
“The size is quite appropriate for us and has the amenities that will work well for our group.”
Mailander said this new space will help the Austrian Club showcase its heritage.
“It is really important to that core group of our membership who are invested in the culture and the traditions, and we love to be able to share that with anybody who's interested."
Mailander feels that having their own space will continue building interest and involvement in the organization.
“We feel this will pull more people in to learn about our culture.”
Regina's Austrian Club is one of many participants that showcase their heritage in the annual Mosaic – A Festival of Cultures.
Despite having their new space, Mailander said the club will still hold their pavilion at the South Leisure Centre.
“Last year, we had 5,500 visitors to Mosaic, which was a huge success. And so that facility will continue to be used for Mosaic. It's worked really well for us.”
As for when the building will open, Mailander said they’re currently working on logistics before holding a grand opening.
She also said the club is open to any new members, including those without Austrian Heritage.
Regina's Austrian Club was first founded in 1972.
