BIG ISLAND LAKE CREE NATION – Pierceland RCMP have arrested and charged two people following a theft of a vehicle with a firearm.
On Feb. 7 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Pierceland RCMP received a report of a vehicle theft with a firearm, which occurred the day before, on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.
Pierceland RCMP officers immediately investigated the report and patrolled the area. At approximately 12:25 p.m., Pierceland RCMP located the stolen vehicle with two occupants in front of a residence on West Road on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.
The stolen vehicle attempted to ram the police vehicle before fleeing at a high speed. Pierceland RCMP followed the stolen vehicle through local streets and onto a wooded trail on Big Island Lake Cree Nation. The stolen vehicle eventually became stuck in the snow. Pierceland RCMP officers approached the vehicle and arrested the two occupants.
As a result of the continued police investigation, a 28-year-old suspect and a 27-year-old suspect, both from Big Island Lake Cree Nation, are individually charged with:
- One count, flight from police;
- One count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
- One count, assault of a police officer with a weapon;
- One count, possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime;
- One count, resisting arrest.
Both accused appeared in court in Meadow Lake on Feb. 9.
