ESTEVAN — A theft from a tourist attraction in the Estevan area is under investigation.
Woodlawn Regional Park board chairman Larry Preddy said someone stole a pelican from the welcome sign at the park’s Boundary Dam site south of the city, according to a post on the Estevan Rant and Rave 2.0 Facebook page. The theft has been reported to the Estevan RCMP.
Preddy noted whoever committed the theft is risking a criminal record, and he asked them to return the pelican or “suffer the consequences”.

Meanwhile, the Estevan Police Service received two reports of unrelated hit-and-run collisions on Feb. 10. Both incidents are under investigation.
The theft of two antique license plates from a consignment table at a local store was reported to the EPS. The matter also remains under investigation.
Members attended to a report of a man, with a dog, discharging a firearm near the cemetery. The individual was located and the EPS said it was determined that he had been using a starter pistol as a component of training for the dog. Police said he was advised of the complaint and cautioned regarding the use of the starter pistol within city limits.
A report of a black GMC truck doing donuts in the parking lot of a business in northeast Estevan was received. Insufficient information was provided to positively identify the vehicle, but the EPS said members attended the area and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle matching the description provided. Officers spoke with the driver, who denied any involvement. No other similar vehicles were located during patrols immediately following the complaint.
The EPS received several reports Feb. 9 of panic alarms at a business in the northeast area. Members attended and determined that staff had accidentally set off the alarm and no emergency had occurred.
A report came in of an unwanted individual at a residence in central Estevan. Members attended and the individual left without incident.
EPS members and EMS staff were asked to attend an apartment in north Estevan. Members attended and determined the caller had injured himself earlier in the day and wanted to be transported back to the hospital for further treatment.
The EPS received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically on Kensington Avenue. The caller believed the motorist might be impaired. Members located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop during which the driver showed no signs of impairment. He was advised of the complaint and cautioned about his driving.
