REGINA — The Regina Food Bank (RFB) has named its interim CEO while it finds a permanent replacement for the departing John Bailey.
Evelyn Cerda will step into the CEO position effective Feb. 24 and said she is now focused on pursuing new opportunities for the food bank after Bailey guided the organization to financial stability.
“It gives us a lot of opportunity to continue exploring. What else can we do to make sure that we are one, making the most of the donations that we are getting, and we’re feeding people [more] nutritious food,” she said during a scrum on Thursday.
Cerda has been the vice-president of the RFB since September 2024. She also worked for Economic Development Regina (EDR) in various roles for six years, according to her LinkedIn.
Ward 3 Coun. David Froh, who serves as a special advisor for the RFB, said Cerda carries her strong community values into her new role.
“She really believes deeply that when you feed your neighbours, it tells you something about who you are as a city.”
Froh also credited Cerda for her role in rethinking how food banks operate, including innovation.
Cerda said she will be focused on partnerships and expanding what the food bank is doing, including product development.
As for Bailey, he will become the new president and CEO of EDR effective March 2.
Currently, the food bank is focused on a transition plan while searching for a permanent CEO.
A timeline on that wasn’t given.
