They’ve been one of the premier lines in the SJHL all season, and Monday was more of the same.
The Yorkton Terriers’ top line of Gabriel Courchesne (1G, 3A), Jye Zawatsky (1G, 2A) and William Leonard (1G, 1A) piled up nine points in a 6-4 come-from-behind win over the Humboldt Broncos on Family Day at the Elgar Peterson Arena.
Courchesne, a former Quebec Remparts forward from the QMJHL, is now tied with Estevan’s Ewan Rennie for the league lead in scoring at 67 points. Zawatsky sits third overall, while Leonard hit the 30-goal mark and now trails Rennie by three for the league lead in goals, ranking fourth in total points.
Through 47 games, the trio has produced just over 41 per cent of Yorkton’s offence.
Rieser’s 100th — cut short
Defenceman Thomas Ries suited up for his 100th career SJHL game — 99 with Yorkton and one as an affiliate with Melfort — doing so in his hometown of Humboldt. The milestone night ended early, however, as his evening was halted 17:22 into the first period following a fight with Broncos forward Logan Flint.
Acquired earlier this season in a trade with the Mustangs, Ries has posted 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 43 games, tied with Battlefords’ Linken Fisher for the league lead in scoring among defencemen.
February heater rolls on
After their eight-game winning streak was snapped Saturday against Estevan, the Terriers have responded by winning eight of nine in February, outscoring opponents 37-23 during that stretch.
Yorkton wraps up the month with four straight at home — one more against Humboldt, one versus Nipawin, and two against La Ronge. Dating back to the holiday break, the Terriers are an impressive 16-4 in the 2026 calendar year.
Broncos let one slip
Humboldt will look back at this one as a missed opportunity. The Broncos led 3-1 after 20 minutes and 4-2 late in the second period but couldn’t close it out.
They now sit two points out of a playoff spot, with seven of their final nine regular-season games on the road. The teams meet again Friday night in Yorkton at Westland Arena to conclude the season series.
Elsewhere in the SJHL
Melville 8, Weyburn 4
The Melville Millionaires’ power play broke open the game, scoring five times on eight chances in an 8-4 road win over the Weyburn Red Wings.
Power-play markers came from Matthew Edwards, Yi-bin Yoo, Brayden Gourley, Kale Margolis and Rylan Oatman. Boston Harkness, Wesley Olson and Riley Craigen added even-strength goals.
Drew Molde, Josh Sale, Rylan Peace and Ryder Rommelaere scored for Weyburn, which now sits four points back of Yorkton for top spot in the Bunge Division.
Melville moves into a tie for sixth with Estevan and Kindersley, with games in hand. The Millionaires travel north Friday and Saturday to the Whitney Forum, where the Flin Flon Bombers remain unbeaten this season.
Battlefords 4, Kindersley 2
The Battlefords North Stars erupted for three goals in the final 2:51 of the third period to stun the Kindersley Klippers on the road.
Anthony Campbell tied the game before Kaleb Dewar scored the winner 30 seconds later. Owen Dyck added an empty-netter to seal it.
Battlefords now sits three points ahead of Yorkton and three back of Flin Flon, holding second place in the SJHL standings.
Melfort 3, Warman 2 (OT)
Melfort captain Zayden Sadlemyer scored 33 seconds into overtime to give the Mustangs a 3-2 road win over the Warman Wolverines.
Noel Englot forced extra time with a late third-period power-play goal.
Melfort is now one point out of the final playoff spot, with three games in hand on Kindersley and one on Estevan.
