REGINA — Inflation eased in both Regina and Saskatoon in January, along with most of the country, as Canada’s annual inflation was at 2.3 per cent, Statistics Canada reported, according to The Canadian Press' report on Tuesday.
The national statistics agency said Regina’s annual inflation rate was 1.9 per cent in January, down from 2.4 per cent in December. Saskatoon saw a similar trend, with inflation at 1.8 per cent, compared with 2.0 per cent the previous month.
Saskatchewan recorded 1.8 per cent inflation in January, down from 2.2 per cent in December.
Statistics Canada also released inflation figures for major cities across the country but cautioned that the numbers may fluctuate widely because they are based on smaller statistical samples.
Among other Prairie cities, Winnipeg recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.5 per cent in January, down from 3.5 per cent in December. Edmonton remained steady at 1.8 per cent, while Calgary posted 2.0 per cent, down from 2.3 per cent the previous month.
In central Canada, Toronto’s inflation rate was 1.6 per cent, down from 1.8 per cent, while Ottawa recorded 2.4 per cent, compared with 2.6 per cent in December.
