Heavy snowfall is expected to impact much of southern Saskatchewan this week, with 25 to 35 centimetres forecast by Thursday morning.
Snow will begin Tuesday morning in western areas and Tuesday afternoon in the east. Jason Colangelo, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says strong winds could lead to blowing snow and poor visibility, making travel dangerous.
A low-pressure system will bring heavy snow from Meadow Lake southeast to Estevan. Conditions are expected to remain poor for the next day or so, before snow tapers off overnight Wednesday. Officials warn that roads may become hazardous, with possible closures and power outages. Drivers are urged to prepare for quickly changing conditions and avoid non-essential travel.
Snowfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected due to heavy accumulations and reduced visibility.
