REGINA — With a large dumping of snow in the City of Regina, community associations are sending out their snow angels.
The city program helps seniors, people living with disabilities or on a fixed income have their driveways and sidewalks cleared.
Joshua Springer, the Snow Angels co-ordinator with the Al Ritchie Community Association (ARCA), said volunteers are ready to clear driveways when a storm rolls through.
“Usually after the volunteers are finished with their work, they'll head out, and they'll take care of the snow or the homeowner's properties.”
Springer said snow angels will take photos of each property cleared to ensure the homeowner is satisfied with the job.
“The last thing we want to do is see someone get injured."
In total, the ARCA handles between 22 and 26 homes in the neighbourhood.
Despite the cold, windy conditions, Springer said each Snow Angel wants to be out there to help their neighbours.
“They just want to do something good for the people of the city and the Al Ritchie community.”
Volunteers needed
One community association is hoping volunteers will lend a hand with its Snow Angel program.
Jaimie Kleckner, program director with the Queen City Eastview Community Association, said they’re currently looking for two to three Snow Angels to help clear snow for vulnerable folks.
She stressed the importance of this program.
“A lot of them have health issues, and if they're not seniors and they do have the health issues, [often with] backs and legs. It's for people who really, truly can't do it.”
Kleckner said the best way to land a hand is to contact the association.
