SASKATOON — Condolences from police, paramedic and peace officer associations are circulating online as multiple organizations report that a Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officer died on Feb. 18.
The Prince Albert Police Association wrote, “We are deeply saddened to hear the news our brothers and sisters at the Saskatoon Police Service received today. Our thoughts are with you all and we extend our deepest condolences to the friends, colleagues and loved ones affected at this time.”
Regina Paramedics with Heart also posted a message of support saying, “Regina EMS & Honour Guard are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of one of their police officers. Our hearts are with you all in this devastating loss @saskatoonpolice."
The Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers added its condolences writing, “Our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Saskatoon officer that tragically passed away today.”
Saskatoon Police Service has confirmed the death in an email to SaskToday Thursday morning.
"I can confirm the SPS is grieving the sudden death of an off-duty member," said Kelsie Fraser, Manager Relations and Strategic Communications for SPS. "No further information will be provided at this time."
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) also issued a statement Wednesday, extending condolences on behalf of Chief Bobby Cameron and the Chiefs-in-Assembly.
“We offer our sincere prayers and condolences to the family, the Saskatoon Police Service, and the entire community," said the FSIN. "This loss is not carried by one organization alone and it is shared by all who value service, dedication and the well-being of our people. In times of grief, we are reminded of the importance of coming together in compassion, kindness and understanding. We honour the life, service and contributions of the individual, and we stand alongside those who mourn."
