REGINA — Towing companies in Regina are keeping busy with the most recent winter snowstorm.
The city was hit with anywhere between 20 and just over 25 centimetres of snow, said Daryl Massier, City of Regina roadways seasonal operations manager on Thursday.
According to CAA Saskatchewan, they received and completed over 80 calls for towing and winch service since Tuesday in Regina.
Elsewhere, Mike Godlien, dispatcher with Camel Towing & Sales Ltd, said the business has received a high number of calls over the past few days.
“During the day was probably about 300. And I would say the day before, when the storm started, was about that same average of the 200-300 range.”
Godlien said a large number of those calls were related to incidents just outside the city.
“It was a lot of semis jackknifed, which was around the Balgonie area.”
As for Regina, Godlien said most calls were for people stuck on roads and driveways.
Another towing company, Big Mikes Towing Inc., dealt with roughly 20 tows from the winter storm.
“It’s pretty common to see this kind of number have a major storm like this,” said Mike Atchison, owner of Big Mikes Towing Inc.
Atchison said it’s typical to continue receiving calls for tows a few days after storms.
“Roads can still be a little hazardous, so it’s not uncommon.”
In the event someone is stuck, Godlien recommended immediately calling a towing company and finding a warm place to take shelter.
Godlien said those needing help can likely expect it within an hour, while pulling a car from the scene can take an hour or two.
