NORTH BATTLEFORD — Battlefords RCMP have arrested and charged two women after a firearm was discharged in North Battleford.
On Feb. 16 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of an altercation outside a residence on Clark Drive in North Battleford.
Officers responded and determined the altercation occurred between a group of people. A firearm was discharged during the altercation. No one was injured as a result of the firearm being discharged.
Officers continued to investigate.
On Feb. 17, Battlefords RCMP located and arrested two women at a home on Sweetgrass First Nation. While inside the residence, officers located and seized a handgun, a firearm magazine and ammunition.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old woman from Sweetgrass First Nation is charged with:

one count, assault with a weapon;

one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence/registration;

one count, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon;
-
one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
-
one count, discharge of a firearm while being reckless.
A 21-year-old woman from Sweetgrass First Nation is charged with:

one count, assault with a weapon;
-
one count, discharge of a firearm while being reckless;
-
one count, resisting/obstructing a peace officer;
-
one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm;
-
one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number;
-
one count, careless use of a firearm; and
-
one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in North Battleford provincial court Feb. 19.
