REGINA — Flights to and from Puerto Vallarta have resumed following the weekend’s cartel violence, and that includes to and from Saskatchewan’s major airports.
Regina International Airport is reporting that both of Monday’s scheduled arrivals and departures that were cancelled for Puerto Vallarta will instead operate today. YQR reports WestJet flight 2684 will depart at 12:50 p.m., while WestJet 2685 will arrive from Puerto Vallarta at 11:35 p.m. at night.
Meanwhile, Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport is showing no flights to and from Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday, but WestJet flight 2400 is due to depart to Puerto Vallarta at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and WestJet 2401 is due to arrive from Puerto Vallarta at 6:18 p.m. on Wednesday as well. Wednesday is a regularly scheduled flight day for the direct route from YXE to Puerto Vallarta.
Both WestJet and Air Canada announced Monday they were resuming flights to and from Puerto Vallarta. Air Canada posted on X that following “consultation with the Government of Canada and Mexican authorities,” they would resume full operations from Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday and Toronto to Guadalajara on Wednesday. They will be flying larger Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Toronto and Montreal to Puerto Vallarta to get more people home.
In an update Monday on their website, WestJet said that following “a thorough review of the current conditions,” WestJet will resume scheduled operations to and from Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Manzanillo beginning Tuesday.
WestJet reports that at this time tourist and resort areas across Mexico remain open and continue to serve visitors, and that WestJet flights to Mexico will operate as scheduled to all destinations. Their flexible/change policy remains in effect for Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara and Manzanillo to Feb. 27.
