WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 66 calls for service for the week of Feb. 15-22, including a person violating the terms of their release conditions.
Police received information Feb. 18 that a man bound by curfew conditions was not at his residence. Officers confirmed he was breaching his conditions. The man was later located, arrested and held in custody. The WPS said he had multiple additional breaches, as well as charges of possession of stolen property and theft before the court. According to the WPS, he pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to nine months in custody.
Police responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at a residence on Feb. 16. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a resident who indicated everything was fine, but due to the nature of the 911 call, police entered the residence to ensure the safety of all parties involved.
An investigation determined a man and a woman had assaulted each other. The WPS said both parties were charged with assault and released on non-contact conditions.
The following day, police responded to a report of a man screaming in a trailer court. Upon arrival, officers located a highly intoxicated man. Due to what the WPS said was aggressive behaviour and ongoing outbursts, he was arrested and lodged in police cells until sober.
The WPS said it continues to receive numerous hit-and-run reports on a weekly basis, which the police said remain a concern. The WPS encourages anyone involved in a collision to report the incident or notify the other party. Officers have also encountered several responsible citizens who have come forward to report their mistakes, the WPS said, and that is appreciated.
Anyone with information regarding any of these matters, or any other criminal activity, is encouraged to contact the WPS at 306-848-3250, the local RCMP detachment at 310-7267, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
