Regina Pats' defenceman Dayton Deschamps completed regular season game number 100 against the Penticton Vees and that accomplishment made the former seventh-round WHL Draft pick proud.
"I never thought I would be in this situation," Deschamps said on The SportsCage. "To have those 100 games and see that online, it's a pretty cool accomplishment for me."
Regina lost against the Vees in Deschamps' 100th game, 7-3, which ended the team's five-game winning streak.
"We're really starting to click as a team and we're really focusing. We all have the same mindset to play a certain way of hockey," Deschamps said. "The last five games have shown how much we want to win and make the playoffs this year."
Deschamps is from Saskatoon, he was selected by his hometown team the Blades in the seventh round during the 2022 WHL Prospect Draft with the 147th overall pick. He's managed to defy the odds in his WHL career and made sure to give the people who helped him to where he is now credit.
"What my parents have instilled in me is to stick with it," Deschamps explained. "I had a lot of help with my midget team, with my GM from there who helped me get to Regina and have this career so far."
The Pats made a trade for Deschamps, who was a part of the Alexander Suzdalev deal on December 31, 2023. Regina sent Suzdalev and a 2025 sixth-round pick to Saskatoon. In return, Regina received Deschamps, Samuel Barcik, and Zach Moore, plus a 2026 first and third-round pick, and a fourth-round pick in 2025.
"I was shocked to say the least. I didn't know that was in the works," Deschamps remembered about the day he was traded from the Blades. "It was my dad's birthday that day, so we were celebrating it. Then out of nowhere, I got this call saying that I'm going to Regina. I was pretty shocked at first, but I'm happy with the way it went."
During the 2025-2026 WHL season, Deschamps has played 44 games for the Pats, scoring one goal and registering six assists. He explained his mentality when he plays hockey.
“I've never been the most offensive guy,” Deschamps said. “I am the guy that can always be trusted to be put out in those situations where you don't want the other team to score, I live by that.”
Next on the Pats schedule, the team hosts the Prince George Cougars at the Brandt Centre on Wednesday night.
"A fast and good team, they're definitely going to be a challenge," Deschamps said. "We've shown that we can beat any team on a given night. I'm excited for that one."
