CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 35 calls from Feb. 19 to Feb. 26, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- one abandoned vehicle,
- one assault,
- one breach of peace,
- one Coroners Act call,
- one disturbing the peace,
- one failure to attend court,
- one Family Law Act call,
- one false alarm,
- one false pretences greater than $5,000,
- one fraud over $5,000,
- one fraud,
- one impaired operation of a motor vehicle,
- three Mental Health Act calls,
- one municipal bylaw call,
- one offender management,
- one uttering threats,
- one sexual assault,
- one suspicious person,
- one theft over $5,000,
- seven traffic offences,
- three traffic collisions, and
- one wellbeing check.
Medicinal cream not working, calls police
On Feb. 24, a woman called the Canora RCMP Detachment, reporting she had spilt coffee on herself and the medicinal cream she was prescribed for the injury was not working. Police spoke to the caller and told her to contact medical professionals about her dissatisfaction with the cream.
Fraud reported
The Canora RCMP investigated a fraud over $5,000 on Feb. 24. The caller reported fraudulent cheques had been deposited into a bank account. Investigation is ongoing.
Workplace injury
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 23 to a business in Preeceville for a man who suffered serious injuries at the workplace. Police attended the business and liaised with Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety. Investigation is ongoing.
Seeing things
On Feb. 21, a man called 911 reporting people hiding in the back of his jeep while he was driving. The caller told 911 he could hear whispering and saw heads popping up. A member of Yorkton Traffic Services assisted Canora RCMP and located and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 9 and 5 in Canora. The driver was found to be under influence of a stimulant and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The man was taken to the hospital and a blood sample obtained for drug analysis.
A 51-year-old man from Kamsack was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The man’s licence was suspended and vehicle towed and impounded for 30 days.
Erratic driver intoxicated
The Canora RCMP were dispatched on Feb. 21 to a report of a red Dodge minivan diving erratically on Highway 9 coming into Canora. Police located and stopped the vehicle. The man driver showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The man provided two breath samples of 310mg% and 290mg% which are almost four times higher than the legal blood alcohol level of 80mg%.
A 43-year-old man from Yorkton was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation while impaired by alcohol over 80mg%. The male’s drivers’ licence was suspended, and the Dodge minivan was impounded for a minimum of 60 days.
Intoxicated driver hits parked truck
On February 19, the Canora RCMP were dispatched to a report of a collision in Preeceville. The caller reported an intoxicated womandrove into the back of a logging truck parked on the side of the highway. Police went to the scene and investigated. The female driver showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The woman provided two breath samples of 150mg% and 140mg%.
A 36-year-old woman from Endeavour was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation while impaired by alcohol over 80mg%. The woman’s drivers’ licence was suspended and the GMC truck she was driving was towed and impounded for 30 days.
