BELL'S POINT, Sask. — Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit has charged a male teen with manslaughter following a death in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of Bell's Point.
On Feb. 25 at approximately 10:10 p.m., La Ronge RCMP received a report of an injured person at a residence in the community. Officers responded immediately and located an injured adult male.
EMS attended and declared the 38-year-old man, from the La Ronge area, deceased. His family has been notified and victim services have been made available.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., officers arrested a male youth at another residence in Bell's Point. Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit took over the investigation.
On Feb. 26, RCMP charged a 16-year-old male from the La Ronge area with one count of manslaughter.
Police are not identifying the accused under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
RCMP said the victim and the accused were known to each other. No further details about their relationship or the victim’s identity are being released.
The youth is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Feb. 27.
The Homicide Investigation Unit, formerly known as the Major Crimes Unit, is part of the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Branch and investigates homicides, suspicious deaths and other serious incidents across the province.
