NORTH BATTLEFORD — A bench warrant to hold for 40-year-old Robert Norgaard of Cut Knife was cancelled on March 3 after a lawyer appeared in court on his behalf.
The warrant was issued by a judge in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 3 when Norgaard didn’t appear. He had previously been granted bail in December under a reverse-onus hearing, requiring him to show why he should be released rather than the Crown having to justify his detention.
Norgaard faces 32 criminal charges stemming from a Nov. 8, 2025, incident on Poundmaker First Nation. RCMP say they stopped him while he was driving a black Cadillac Escalade and discovered a hidden compartment containing six firearms, four of which were loaded with ammunition in the chamber. Police also say that Norgaard was wearing soft body armour and carrying a large hunting knife.
According to court documents, the charges include numerous firearm offences, including possession of several loaded weapons without a license (a sawed-off shotgun, a shotgun, a .22 rifle, and a prohibited double-barrel shotgun). He is also charged with possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose and with having two firearms that had their serial numbers removed.
Additional charges include having prohibited weapons (knuckle dusters, a collapsible baton, and a knife) for a dangerous purpose. He is also charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of unstamped tobacco.
The Crown is proceeding by indictment.
