SASKATOON — A 41-year-old Saskatoon man is facing several charges after police say a late-night traffic stop attempt turned into a foot chase and a reckless driving incident on the city’s east side.
Saskatoon police say an officer on patrol spotted a suspicious black Chrysler 200 around 1 a.m. on March 4 in the 500 block of 8th Street East. When the vehicle turned onto McPherson Avenue, the officer initiated a traffic stop. The car slowed an pulled over, but a man and woman immediately got out and ran. As the officer approached, the driver sped away.
According to police, the vehicle began evading through the area of Wilson Crescent and Preston Avenue, driving in a dangerous manner. Officers had already deployed a tire-deflation device earlier in the incident, and when the driver tried to pass a snow plow, he lost control and came to rest on the median.
The man tried to flee on foot but was arrested shortly after. Police say he was wanted on several warrants and is believed to have been under the influence of methamphetamine.
He is charged with possession of bear spray, impaired driving, dangerous driving, evading police, and two counts of breaching court conditions.
