RED EARTH CREE NATION – Update, March 5: As a result of the continued investigation, Carrot River RCMP have charged 24-year-old Julian Kitchener, from Shoal Lake.
Kitchener has been charged with:
– one count of discharge firearm with intent;
– one count of aggravated assault; and
– one count of weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization.
Carrot River RCMP are actively working to locate Julian Kitchener. Updates will be provided when possible. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, police say they will notify the public.
Julian Kitchener is described as:
- Height: 6 ft.
- Weight: 220 lbs.
- Hair colour: black
- Other descriptors: left eye may appear partially closed and is grey, right eye is brown in colour

Original post, March 4: Carrot River RCMP are investigating a shooting on Red Earth Cree Nation.
On March 3 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of a shooting on Red Earth Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded and located a man with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening in nature.
The investigation determined a vehicle, described as a grey Chevrolet Impala, approached the victim. A firearm was discharged, injuring him.
It’s believed there were two individuals in the vehicle, which fled the scene of the shooting.
Carrot River RCMP are actively working to locate the suspects. Updates will be provided when possible. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, police say they will notify the public.
