The Yorkton Terriers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night following a 4–2 loss in Weyburn against the Red Wings.
With the victory, the Red Wings improved to 5-2 against the Terriers this season and pulled into a tie with the Nipawin Hawks for fourth place in the SJHL standings.
Power Play Pearce Delivers Again
20-year-old Rylan Pearce scored the eventual game-winner for the Red Wings just four seconds into Weyburn’s sixth power play of the night.
Four of the Martensville product’s five goals this season have come on the power play, and he now has 11 power-play points in just 18 games since joining the Red Wings in early January.
Rocha Wins the Goaltending Duel
Both goaltenders were strong, making key saves throughout the night, but it was Joey Rocha who came out on top against the SJHL’s wins leader Callum Creig.
Rocha turned aside 35 of 37 shots to earn his eighth win of the season in the Red Wings’ net.
Creig made 32 saves in the loss and was defeated for just the third time in 2026, where he now holds a 14-3 record.
Lanigan Keeps Cashing In
Cash Lanigan continued his outstanding rookie campaign for the Terriers, scoring both Yorkton goals — his 17th and 18th of the season — to extend his goal streak to four games.
The Terriers’ 2023 second-round U15 draft pick now sits two points ahead of Estevan Bruins forward Cash Olson for the SJHL rookie scoring lead.
Both players are expected to be among the top candidates when the league announces its rookie of the year nominees next week.
Courchesne Still Leading the Charge
With an assist on Lanigan’s power-play goal, Gabriel Courchesne moved two points up on Bruins forward Ewan Rennie in the SJHL scoring race.
Remarkably, there have been only two games this calendar year where Yorkton’s top line of Courchesne, Jye Zawatsky, and William Leonard has been held off the scoresheet — January 13th against Estevan and January 2nd versus Melville.
Bunge Division Still Within Reach
The Terriers had a chance to clinch their first Bunge Division title since the 2020-21 season with a regulation win, but will now get another opportunity on home ice Friday night when the Red Wings visit the Westland Insurance Arena to close out the season series.
