By now we’re aware of the troubles plaguing the Middle East, particularly Iran as the US and Israel continue their assault on the country. Another problem has arisen in the region, albeit a lot less serious and much more humorous, which is the scandal tearing apart the camel beauty contest of Oman.
Yes, it’s true. Camel breeders from around the Country of Oman hold a yearly show and competition to showcase the beauty of the camels they’re raising. It can by quite lucrative and very prestigious for those who win it, or even place high in the competition. Typically, the beauty of camels are judged by how shiny their coat is, how full their lips are, firm humps, neck length, and long eyelashes.
However, this year, there have been 20 camels disqualified because of alleged “enhancements” made to the animal. Veterinarians discovered some camels were injected with Botox, lip fillers, silicone implants were used to reshape noses, and even their humps were enhanced artificially. It was also discovered that some breeders allegedly used hormone treatments to make camels look more muscular.
This isn’t the first time camels have been disqualified in the competition due to “enhancements.” In 2021 nearly 40 camels were disqualified due to their noses being stretched and for hormone use. Earlier in 2018, 12 camels were booted from the competition due to Botox use.
Perhaps this is the start of a new reality TV series.
