WYNYARD – Wynyard RCMP seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl and 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Wynyard.
On March 4, Wynyard RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Avenue D East in Wynyard as part of an ongoing investigation. The traffic stop involved a car.
As a result of roadside investigation, a man was arrested at the scene.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine, 162 grams of cocaine, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and a large sum of cash.
Resulting from continued investigation, a 26-year-old man, from Scarborough, Ont., is charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl;
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine;
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; and
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The accused appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court on March 5. His next court appearance is in Yorkton Provincial Court on March 9.
“Fentanyl is an extremely potent substance. Consumption – or even contact – with only a few milligrams can be fatal,” said Sgt. Geoff Applegate, the Wynyard RCMP detachment commander, in a news release. “Our detachment officers located a kilogram and a half of fentanyl, along with a significant amount of methamphetamine, making it clear that they disrupted a drug trafficking operation that could have caused significant harm within our communities.”
