RM OF MERVIN – North Battleford and Lloydminster CRT have charged two people after firearms and illegal drugs were seized in the RM of Mervin.
Three firearms, methamphetamine, and cocaine were seized at a residence in the RM of Mervin by Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford and Lloydminster Crime Reduction Teams (CRT).
On Feb. 25, Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford and Lloydminster CRTs were in the Turtleford detachment area working to arrest offenders who were wanted on a warrant by the RCMP.
With support and local insights from the Turtleford RCMP detachment, the CRTs attended a residence in the RM of Mervin. At the residence, officers located a woman who was wanted on multiple warrants for charges including assaulting a police officer, flight from police, and breaching court-ordered conditions. These charges were laid in relation to RCMP investigations in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. The wanted woman was arrested, along with a second woman who was located inside.
As part of the investigation, officers obtained a warrant and searched the residence and a vehicle at the property. During the search, officers located and seized three firearms, an airgun, ammunition, firearm magazines, 3.5 kilograms of illicit cannabis, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 120 pharmaceutical-style tablets, and 1.2 grams of cocaine.
In relation to this investigation, a 39-year-old suspect, from Thunderchild First Nation, and a 40-year-old suspect, from Turtleford, are each charged with:
- one count, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon;
- one count, possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence/registration;
- three counts, careless use of a firearm;
- three counts, unsafe storage of firearms;
- one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle;
- two counts, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized;
- one count, possession – cocaine; and
- one count, possession – methamphetamine.
The 39-year-old suspect was also arrested on her outstanding warrants.
The two accused appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 27.
