PRINCE ALBERT — A 24-year-old man is facing several charges after a stolen vehicle investigation escalated into an officer-involved assault late Sunday.
Prince Albert Police Service officers were called around 10:30 p.m. on March 8 to a business in the River Street West area for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Further checks confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Officers found the vehicle in a drive-thru and approached it on foot. Police say the driver ignored commands to stop, rammed the vehicle ahead of him, then swerved toward an officer before fleeing at a high rate of speed. The officer wasn’t injured.
The vehicle continued to Highway 302 West where it was eventually disabled. Patrol officers attended the location of the vehicle and three occupants were arrested without further incident.
The 24-year-old man has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, assaulting a police officer, evading police, dangerous driving, and breaching a release order. A 22-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
